This distinction comes from the same brand name and the chief designer Karen Kane . After growing up in the small town of Santa Barbara, Karen moved to Los Angeles to pursue his dream of becoming a fashion designer . He enrolled at the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising and graduated two years later with a degree in fashion. After meeting her husband Lonnie , the pair launched Karen Kane, Inc. out of their garage in Studio City. With little more than a dream to work off of, they send their first collection in December 1979 .
By the time they were ready to begin production on their next collection, they realized that they would need more space to meet demand . Moving to a new space in Downtown LA , Karen and Lonnie continued to do all of their own sewing and manufacturing before finding contractors who could support their growing business. While trends have changed since Karen launched her first collection , her approach and personal philosophy toward fashion has never wavered .
She designs with ease , luxury and longevity in mind. His inspiration comes from that which is closest to her soul – the California coast that has long been at home, the city streets every day browsing , and of course , his family. As Karen ‘s company continued to expand , and the company has grown into a 130,000 square foot facility in the state of the art in Vernon , California.
